Engineering
The City of Amsterdam's Department of Public Works consists of four departments which are directed by the City Engineer and the Public Works Supervisor. They are Streets: which are responsible for maintaining approximately 80 miles of city roadways. This includes pavement repairs, street cleaning and various capital projects. During the winter months their concentration is on snow plowing and removal, salting and sanding. The Water department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the City's water mains, valves and hydrants while the Sewer department maintains and repairs the sanitary and storm water collection system including mains, manholes and catch basins. Sanitation provides curbside garbage and recyclable collection.
